Each year, we go on a retreat at the beginning of the school year to grow in love, foster solidarity, and reflect on service with one another. We began the get-away by serving the local community by helping to pick up trash at the beach. Then we engaged in activities to reflect on why we each serve and to better get to know the other members in the organization. The retreat culminated with a personal sharing activity that bonded us all together in a very deep and profound way. As we left to return back to school the next day, one girl made a comment that was perhaps the most revealing when she said “it’s crazy how different you feel at the end of retreat than at the beginning of the retreat.”
